The Ark at St. John's

The Ark is a an exciting new childcare service conveniently located at Quarry Village inside St. John's. Director of the Ark, Rhonda Dossett, says the service is great for stay-at-home moms or dads who want to get out of the house for a few hours, go to the gym, or run errands. But the Ark it is not just a childcare center; it's truly a learning center for children. Our childcare workers are ready to teach science, math or the alphabet to kids while they are with us.

The space is wonderful! We  have toys, a sensory-based learning area, time for dramatic play, and all sorts of tools to help your child develop skills in science, reading, and math. Bring your children by

any time. We'd love to get to know you. Read more HERE

Altar Service

Altar servers include Lectors, Acolytes, Prayer leaders, Chalice bearers, Crucifers, Gospel book bearers, Floral arrangers, and members of the Altar Guild. To become involved in any ministry described below, contact the Rector or the church office.

Acolytes, Chalice bearers, Gospel Book bearers, and Crucifers are trained and scheduled by our Rector, and assist the clergy on a rotating basis. These ministries are excellent for children. To

participate, see the Rector or sign-up at the church office.

Prayer leaders are responsible for the Prayers of the People during worship and are scheduled by the Prayer Ministry leader.

Lectors (readers) are scheduled and lead by the church office. They are responsible for reading the scripture lessons at worship.

The Altar Guild prepares the chancel for services, setting the altar, and preparing for the Lord's Supper. The Guild also manages the church's vestments, linens, and table ware. Altar Guild members receive detailed training and are assigned on a rotating basis.

Floral arrangers see to the altar flowers for services.

The church office schedules sanctuary and special event floral arrangements.

Hospitality Ministries

Some call these folks greeters, as they are generally the first parishioners visitors and fellow church members are likely to encounter before service. A vital ministry of outreach and service, greeters are trained and serve on a rotating basis as a group with a group leader. There is no age requirement to greet. In addition to welcoming guests, greeters answer questions, act as ushers,

and are responsible for the safety of the parish before, during,

and after services. To be enrolled as a greeter, contact the

chairperson.

Christian Education

A gift highly valued at St. John's is that of the teacher. Teachers are being raised up continuously for weekly studies, prayer ministries, Sunday School, Nursery, and Adult Education.  Teaching assignments are given on a rotating basis and are available even to those whose time in town is seasonal. If you feel that the Lord has given you a gift to teach, please see our Rector or a member of the Christian Ed taskforce. Nursery helpers are also needed to read stories and lead music on a when-available basis.

Music Ministry

Each Sunday morning, our Music Team leads the congregation in singing. We love all instruments and voices, and if you play or sing, we invite you to join us! (Even if you don’t play the ram’s horn or the lyre, we love the piano, guitar, flute, cello and even kazoo!)

Please see this article to learn more about St. John’s philosophy of music in worship. The Music Team meets on Sunday mornings at 9:00 AM for practice. Then, we joyfully lead the music at the 10:15 AM worship service. Please join us. For more information about music at St. John’s, please contact the Music Director at: music@stjohnsanglican.org.

Vestry

The Vestry is the congregationally elected fiduciary body of the church; responsible for day to day operations, money, and legal supervision. The board takes its name from the vestry, a room where clergy changed into their vestments, early used as a meeting room in English churches. Vestry members may be men or women, must be church members, and living in accordance with the scriptural requirements for Elders (1 Timothy 3:1-7 and Titus 1:5-9). If you have prayerfully considered serving on the Vestry, please contact the Sr. Warden or the Rector.

Prayer Ministries

We encourage all St. John's members to be involved in some form of prayer ministry. Ministry opportunities include Worship Prayer, Intercession, Healing Prayer Ministries, Inner Healing, and First Prayer (Intercession). We offer regular prayer ministry training in each of these disciplines. For more information about our healing ministries visit the prayer page HERE.

Missions

We are praying for a vital missionary ministry for this church. As a missionary movement of the Anglican Province of Rwanda to the US, the Anglican Mission in the Americas and St. John's has not forgotten that we are first called to be missionaries to our community and to our world.  To visit our current missionaries and missionary efforts, take a look Right here. To find out how to participate in local or global mission see the Mission Chair or contact the Rector.
