Prayer Ministry

In scripture, Jesus and the disciples give us many examples of prayers and ways of praying. In Matthew 6:5-13 Jesus is telling the disciples to pray in their room behind closed doors. Then he gives them an example of what to pray for with the Lords Prayer. Jesus prays by himself in the Garden of Gethsemane, Matthew 26: 36-39. After the crucifixion, Acts 1:12-14 tells us the disciples along with others joined together constantly praying.

Be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will.
I Thessalonians 5:16 - 18

Thoughts on praying

Prayer Ministry takes place in many ways.  We have corporate prayers on Sundays.  Specific prayer requests are prayed for by our prayer chain as needed.  As individuals, we have our own prayer times.  We would like to encourage you to use the Prayer Book during your prayer time.  By using Daily Morning Prayer, Noonday Prayer, or Daily Evening Prayer, it helps keep you focused on your Prayers, by reading scripture and other inspirational words.

Another form of prayer is the laying on of hands.  This is an example used many times in scripture and tradition.  As our Prayer Team is praying for anyone who wishes additional prayer support, they may gently put a hand on that person's shoulder as a sign of caring and support.

Agape Ministry

Sometimes we just need a little reminder of how much God Loves Us... AND how much our family in Christ does, too!  That is what The Agape Ministry at St. John's is all about!  Whether it be celebrating birthdays or anniversaries, new jobs, marriages or giving you that little "boost" you need to get through tough times, The Agape Ministry reminds you that "God Loves You"...and so does St. John's!

If you need a card or note sent to someone you know who needs that little "boost", let me know and I will be glad to pass along support and well wishes from our Lord and Saviour and our Church Family! Email me at AgapeMinistry@stjohnsanglican.org, or speak to me in person at church.
